University of Köln, University of Modena, Vattikuti Foundation & Junior Orsi offer a 3-day summer school in robotic & laparoscopic basic surgical training for medical students and first-year residents.
The course includes high quality lectures on robotic surgery and hands-on training in the Orsi lab. They get to learn the basic device tasks using the science-based and validated proficiency-based progression learning methodology.
day 1
16:00 Arrival in Ghent and hotel check-in
19:30 Welcoming word Junior Orsi & Orsi Academy
Day 2
8:20 We meet in the lobby of IBIS hotel, bus to Orsi Academy
9:00 Short presentation about Orsi Academy & The story of robotic surgery
9:30 Surgery training: 2 groups of 16 participants
- 1st group on the Intuitive Da Vinci robot
- 2nd group on the Medtronic HUGO Ras robotic system
- Introduction of the robotic system
- Basic surgical skill tasks
- If time permits
- Basic surgical skill tasks: Suturing on pig foot: the main sutures used in surgery (simple interrupted suture, running suture “donati” suture, intradermic)
- How to attach a drain on a chicken model
12:30 Lunch: sandwiches
13:30 Theoretical explanation of dissection and coagulation task
14:00 Surgery training: 2 groups of 16 participants
- 1st group on the Intuitive Da Vinci robot
- 2nd group on the Medtronic HUGO Ras robotic system
- Complex surgical skill tasks: robotic tasks (wet-lab): dissection, coagulation
16:00 Afternoon snack
17:30 End of training
18:00 Dinner at Orsi
Day 3
8:30 We meet in the lobby of IBIS hotel, bus to Orsi Academy
9:00 Theoretical explanation of chicken anastomosis task+ Medicroid introductory presentation about Hinotori robot
9:30 Surgery training: 3 groups of 11 participants
- 1st group on the Intuitive Da Vinci robot
- 2nd group on the Medtronic HUGO Ras robotic system
- Complex surgical skill tasks: robotic tasks (wet-lab): chicken anastomosis
- 3rd group on the Hinotori (Medicaroid) robotic system
- Basic surgical skill tasks
13:00 Lunch: hot meal
14:00 Surgery training: 3 groups of 11 participants
- 1st group on the Intuitive Da Vinci robot
- 2nd group on the Medtronic HUGO Ras robotic system
- PBP assessment of the students on the chicken anastomosis task
- 3rd group on the Hinotori (Medicaroid) robotic system
- Basic surgical skill tasks
15:30 Presentation about Surgquest + afternoon snack
17:30 End of training
18:00 Closing activity: reception and official certificate of attendance
19:00 Dinner at Orsi: cold buffet
21:00 Transfer to Ghent

Registration
Registration for the Summer School is organized by the participating institutions. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to your local coordinator or institution involved in this program.
Eligibility
To apply, you must be a medical student or a first-year resident with a strong interest in robotic surgery.
Capacity
A maximum of 32 participants will be accepted into the program.
Fee
The registration fee is €1000 per participant.
Please note:
The actual cost per student is significantly higher and is partially sponsored by Orsi Academy.
Transportation to Belgium and accommodation are not included in the registration fee.
This is a non-profit event, aimed at promoting robotic surgical education among young and promising future surgeons.
